Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 @ 12:13 pm | Concerts & Festivals, Local Horn Bands, Tower of Power updates

Eric Tewald, John Scarpulla & Jerry LopezHanging out at the Palm’s Lounge (Las Vegas), Monday night, for the first 2008 show from Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns. I stepped out to the bar and who should greet me, but Tower of Power alumnus, John Scarpulla. John was in Las Vegas for a corporate show and, like so many people, was drawn to Santa Fe at the Palms.

John and his beautiful wife are still reveling in the birth of their twin boys, not yet 3 months old.

John is pictured in the photo, between sax man, Eric Teawald, and Santa Fe leader, Jerry Lopez (photo by Bobby Gladd).

Funk FilharmonikAs timing would have it, John is performing with the Funk Filharmonik, tonight, at the Cutting Room, 19 W 24th Street, New York, NY, beginning at 10pm. The Funk are working on a CD, now having completed the mix on four songs.

Sign up for gig notifications on each of these bands web sites, respectively. Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns have just confirmed its 2008 dates at the Palms. Santa Fe will be there all but two Monday nights. The timeline will follow a new format. Music will continue to start at 10:30pm, but will consist of one 2-hour show, ending at 12:30pm.

    Hi Andy,
A Great Site and always a treat to read..I’m Bobby G’s Cousin Jojo. I live over in the Monterey, CA area and have followed your work with TOP for many, many years. Bobby and I grew up together and started playing music together in the early 60’s. We went on the road together with Top 40 bands and wound up in Seattle (after my USAF stint). I still play electric bass and freelance over here. I’ve seen TOP probably two dozen times over the last 37 years. Bobby believe it or not had Rick Stevens in his band in North Beach, before his short time in Tower. We would hang with them and Cold Blood, when they were in Seattle in the early 70’s! TOP has played the Monterey County Fair at least 10 times or more and I got to talk to David Garibaldi a few years ago after Rocco’s surgery. Danny Hofer (guitarist on ‘Back on the Streets, last Columbia album), was also a very close friend/band member in Seattle years ago. So, kind of the ever extended musical family that you are used to. Keep up the great work O.K. I was over to the Palms twice in 06′ for Bill Champlin (Our all time Hero and now a friend) and for a band reunion in late Feb 07′. Take Good Care My Soul CEO Brother and Dance On! Jojo Coco :-)
